A group of Tatars smashed up an exhibition devoted to the anniversary of the Stalin's birthday in the Crimean city of Simferopol, Ukraine, Ekho Moskvy reports on Friday. The attackers chanted 'Take the fascist away!'
The police did not suppress the attack, but asked the people 'to calm down'.
Tatars (as well as Jews, Germans and many Caucasian ethnic groups) were persecuted and forced to leave their native lands during Stalin's era. Many public figures and human rights groups demand that Stalinism should be condemned officially, a move which neither Ukrainian nor Russian authorities seem to make.
