Lieutenant-General Nikolai Simakov, Chief of the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry in the Southern Federal District, said that the police were especially scrupulous preventing terrorism during preparations for the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, Interfax reports.
He reminded that militants of Doku Umarov trained at neighbour states of Russia were the main target. Emissaries of Al Qaeda are another threat.
Simakov added that any support from the local population was welcome. The police need to cooperate with the population of the Krasnodar Territory, Rostov Region and Adygeya.
