Russian education official faces arrest

Felix Shamkhalov, head of the higher certification commission of the Russian Education Ministry, may be put under arrest. Moscow investigators filed a request for his arrest to the Tverskoy Court of Moscow, RIA Novosti reports.

Shamkhalov is suspected of high-scale fraud. Anton Solovarov, Director General of Zarechye-2, is another suspect of the case. Their fraud scheme caused a theft of 350 million rubles.

Shamkhalov was detained on February 5. His detention had nothing to do with diplomas and granting science degrees.

Felix Shamkhalov was born in Yaragkazmalyar in the Magaramkentsky District of Dagestanb on April 5, 1968. He is a PhD of Economics, a professor and corresponding member of the RAS. He is an honorary scientist of Russia (2002), owner of the State Premium of Russia for Young Scientists for his contributions to research in 2001.
