Azerbaijan is marking the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly Massacre of February 26, 1992, when 613 people were killed and over a thousand became handicapped. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev laid flowers to the memorial of victims of the tragedy at the Khatai District of Baku this morning. He was accompanied by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Speaker of Parliament Oktay Asadov, head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mekhtiyev, his wife and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.
MPs, ministers, heads of committees and companies, diplomats, religious figures, survivors of the tragedy visited the memorial.
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismail Alper Josgun said that Turkey will always support Azerbaijan and remember victims of the tragedy.
Commemorations were held in Russia, Israel, Turkey, European countries and the US.
Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva has been organizing exhibitions within the framework of the Justice for Khojaly Campaign since 2008. A documentary about the massacre was made.
US administration expressed condolences over the tragedy and emphasized devotion to peaceful settlement of conflicts within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.
