Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze said that the program for support of Meskhetian Turks, encouraged by the Council of Europe, helped over 5,000 of them to return and about 800-900 file documents to gain citizenship.
She noted that the country needed legislative adjustments to help Meskhetian Turks.
A special commission was initiated to speed up the process of granting citizenship to the ethnicity in 2011.
