Lieutenant-General Sergey Istrakov, Deputy Commander of the Central Military District, has become the Commander of the Main Staff of the Russian Ground Forces.
The general served in the Airborne Forces, took part in military operations, the Yugoslavian peacekeeping mission of 1999-2000. He was the head of the 58th army of the North Caucasus Military District, the 41st army of the Siberian Military District and deputy head of the Central Military District.
