A plenary session of the International Historical and Cultural Forum and a conference entitled "Great Victory achieved through unity: peoples of the Caucasus in the Battle of Stalingrad" took place today in Volgograd.
As reported earlier by Vestnik Kavkaza, the representative forum has brought together more than 150 participants from eight regions of Russia and countries of the South Caucasus - Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. The forum is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad and is aimed at commemorating the war and strengthening the friendly relations between the peoples of the former Soviet republics, the ancestors of which defeated fascism.
Speaking at a plenary session on "Preserving the memory of the war as a factor strengthening bilateral relations", the deputy dean of the History Department of Moscow State University and director of the "North-South" political science center, Alexey Vlasov, said that, in addition to economic integration and security cooperation, the countries need to discuss questions of preserving and strengthening their common historical ground.
