Cossacks of North Ossetia to protect state borders of Russia
The Alanian Republican district of the Terek Cossack Army will allocate 20 Cossacks, living in the border areas of North Ossetia-Alania, to form national teams for the protection of the state border between Russia and Georgia. A treaty has been already signed between the directorate of the border guards and the district, the Border Department of the Federal Security Service in North Ossetia reported today. Under the agreement, the Cossacks, in cooperation with border guards, will explain to the citizens the requirements of the legal framework governing the activities of legal entities and individuals in the border area and the state border of the Russian Federation, as well as control the border regime, and the regime of crossing the state border, the Border Department said. Currently the Cossacks are in training, during which they will learn the theoretical basis of border operations. By the end of May the Cossacks will have to pass tests, and those who successfully confirm their knowledge, will begin service on the border on June 1 this year."Based on the results of their participation in the protection of the state border, some of the Cossacks could be promoted. Some of them may be asked to enter military service in the security agencies," the press-service of the Border Guard explained, according to TV channel Russia - Alania.
