Four labour slaves released in Dagestan

 

Four people used as slaves at a stone factory in Mekegi in the Levashinsky District of Dagestan for about two months have been released, the Dagestani Interior Ministry reports.

Six Russians and a Ukrainian were used as slaves at the factory. Three managed to escape. Volunteers of the Alternativa organization took part in releasing them. Alternativa leader Oleg Melnikov said that the volunteers had been searching for a 38-year-old man from Moscow who had gone missing on May 1, 2013. The three who escaped the factory were hiding in bushes 20km away from the factory.

People were lured into the factory as workers with a wage of 25,000 rubles, accommodation and other benefits, only to be stripped of documents and forced to work there for free.

Six people wrote a police statements at the police station of the Levashinsky District and one at the Interior Ministry. They got only about 2,000-3,000 rubles spent on clothes.

Alternativa is still searching for the 38-year-old man. The organization has only half a month to find him, otherwise he will die without medicaments.
