The police had a crackdown of ecologists at Taksim at the Istanbul center using tear gas and water cannons, ITAR-TASS reports.
Protests in the area have continued for 4 days. Ecologists demanded the park at Taksim to be preserved. Clashes with the police started at about 5.00 am. They continue at the Istiklal Street.
Turkish authorities plan to build a car tunnel through the Gezi Park. The construction started about a year ago. Buildings constructed in early 19th century and 1920s will be reconstructed.
