The security forces of Dagestan went on high alert after the arrest of the mayor of Makhachkala, the leadership of the republic promises to continue the "cleansing" of their ranks, the Acting Head of the Republic, Ramazan Abdullatipov, says.
"Law enforcement agencies will continue to scrutinize all suspicions of corruption and any other illegal activities. None of the representative of the government, no matter what position he holds, will escape responsibility," RIA News quotes Abdullatipov.
The report stresses that the security forces were transferred to medium security in order to prevent potentially disruptive actions. "Currently, the situation in the capital is under full control," the statement reads.
The Dagestani leadership also appealed to the citizens of the republic with a request not to succumb to provocations.
