The Armenian government has approved resignation of Governor of the Syunik Region Suren Khachatryan. Deputy Minister for Territorial Administration Vache Terteryan said that the governor resigned voluntarily.
A candidate for Goris mayor Avetik Budagyan died and Col. Artak Budagyan was injured in shooting at the country house of the governor in Goris on June 1. A local Nikolai Abramyan was also injured.
Son and bodyguard of the governor Tigran Khachatryan and Zarzand Nikogosyan were charged with murder, illegal possession of weapons and purposeful injury. The incident at the governor’s country house is believed to be the motive for resignation.
