Armenia to build "New Aleppo"

A neighbourhood called "New Aleppo", intended for the resettlement of Syrian Armenians, will be built in the Armenian city of Ashtarak, it has been announced but the Minister for the Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan. The NGO Coordination Center for Syrian Armenians’ Issues will mark out an area of 4.8 hectares in Ashtarak for the construction of a district for 600 families, who are ready to pay 50% of the property value. According to the Armenian Ministry for the Diaspora, the number of Syrian Armenians who have returned to Armenia amounts to 7000 people. In this context, the Minister for the Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan, noted that such districts will be constructed in other cities as well. Until recently, the Armenian diaspora in Syria comprised up to 100,000 people.
