The Hungarian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zsolt Csutora, called the start of regular flights between Baku and Budapest a historic event. The announcement was made at a press conference dedicated to the opening of the new route.
"Today my dream has come true, direct flights from Budapest to Baku will start operating tonight," the ambassador said.
Bilateral ties between the two countries have risen to a new level in the past two and a half years.
"The Prime Minister and the President of Hungary visited Baku twice. This year, the President of Azerbaijan is expected to visit Hungary. Our relations are at a very high level," the Ambassador said.
The statement was followed by a detailed account of the executive director of "Wizz Air" Azerbaijan, Jozsef Varady, about the company. He noted that Baku is the eastermost point of the route network, and that the new flight route will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.
"Azerbaijani-Hungarian relations have developed rapidly in the past two years, and we are happy to contribute to the development of these relations. Our planes fly to 33 countries around the world. Azerbaijanis visiting Hungary will be able to discover not only Budapest, but also other European countries," the Ambassador noted.
