The World Health Organization (WHO) is investigating the level of Azerbaijan's readiness for carrying out vaccination of children against pneumococcal disease, the Deputy Director of the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Azerbaijani Health Ministry, Afag Aliyeva, said on Thursday, Trend reports.
According to her, a visit by the WHO assessment mission to Azerbaijan is expected in the near future.
"WHO experts will evaluate the level of preparatory work, after which the supplies of vaccines will be delivered to the republic," Trend quotes Aliyeva.
Vaccination of children in Azerbaijan is expected to start already this year. Children under one year old will be vaccinated with 10-valent anti-pneumococcal vaccines three times. Instructions for using vaccines are ready and training is being carried out, Aliyeva said.
