Today Russia celebrates the XXIV All-Russian Olympic Day. All over the country various competitions and other sporting events will be held.
President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov opened the celebrations in Moscow's Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure today. The park has become a center of the sport celebrations - various competitions in sprinting and beach soccer will be held in the park today.
Over 40 legendary athletes will attend the event, such as Larisa Latynina, Marat Safin, Irina Slutskaya, Ilia Averbukh and Svetlana Masterkova. Paralympians will also take part in the event. Members of the Russian Paralympic Team, including two-time paralimpic champion in swimming and ambassador of the Sochi-2014 olympics Olesya Vladykina will be present.
The holiday will also be celebrated in South Ossetia, which holds joint competitions with North Ossetia.
