Gabala becomes cultural capital of CIS

In Azerbaijan's Gabala the ceremony of awarding certificates in connection with the announcement of Gabala as the cultural capital of the CIS in 2013 took place. The document was presented to the head of the Executive Power of the Gabala region of Azerbaijan, Sabuhi Abdullayev.

According to the decision taken at a joint meeting of the Council for Cultural Cooperation and the Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund - CIS on 15-17 October in Ashgabat, the city of Gabala was declared the cultural capital of the CIS.

On the occasion of the ceremony the First Deputy Minister of Culture of Tajikistan Mirali Dostiev, an expert of the president of Kyrgyzstan Zairbek Ergeshov, chairman of the National Cultural Center "Modova-Concert" at the Ministry of Culture of Moldova Valentin Gogh, Ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan Nikolai Paskevich and the head of department of work with CIS of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation Anton Nazarov all came to Gabala.

Speakers at the ceremony noted with satisfaction that during their stay in Gabala they witnessed the great hospitality of the Azerbaijani people.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Byulbyuloglu, welcoming the guests, said that the ceremony involved officials from more than 10 countries. Conveyed his congratulations on the occasion, the Ambassador informed the participants about the establishment and operation of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation.

He noted that the fund encourages the expansion of humanitarian cooperation in the CIS.
