Historian Pivovar says new Russian history book needs account of regional component

The Russian Historic Society and the History of Russia Portal published a historic and cultural project of the new Russian history book, according to the order of President Vladimir Putin. Yefim Pivovar, Doctor of History and head of the Russian State University for the Humanities, said that the idea behind the new generation of schoolbooks was under the first stage of development.

The historian noted that specialists were forming a concept of the new book, searching for key elements that need to be included. Complicated and disputable aspects need interpretation according to the latest researches.

The Historic Society will discuss the problems in autumn. A tender will be announced to release the history books. Pivovar clarified that they will be books for national and world history.

One of the problems is setting historic periods in the book for grades 9-11. Another problem is the regional component. The books need to take specifics of Russian regions into account in terms of their ethnic division. The scientist added that specialists were still unsure about the final period to be described in the books.
