Approximately 491 hectares of cannabis farms have been discovered in Iran's West Azerbaijan province during the last solar year (ended on March 21) and the first quarter of current year, Trend reports with reference to the Mehr news agency.
It has been reported that 330 hectares have been destroyed since March last year alone.
Approximately 23,467 tons of narcotics have been seized since March 2012, including 1,352 tons since March.
The police commander of West Azerbaijan province, Yahya Sharafi, expressed his concern about increasing consumption of industrial narcotics including methamphetamine in the province. Recently, the Iranian authorities have increased their efforts in fighting drug consumption and production.
