Borukh Gorin, head of the PR department of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, has commented on the attack on rabbi Artur Isakov in Derbent last night. He said that the incident was a shock for the Jewish community. Gorin noted that Isakov was a father of four and was an absolutely innocuous man, notable for doing only good deeds to others.
The official emphasized that his attack could only be done by immoral and violent people, assailants that personify the evil. The community hopes for recovery of the rabbi and punishment of the attackers.
Gorin noted that life of the Jewish community in the region caused no fears before the incident. A community center was opened in Derbent with the help of rabbi Ovadya. Gorin said that he had had personal contacts with the rabbi who had characterized life in the region positively.
