Commander of the Airborne Troops, Hero of Russia, Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov told Vestnik Kavkaza what happened during a botched jump of the interim Head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, when he injured his leg, and how the politician feels at the moment.
"On the eve of his 50th anniversary, when making the jump from low altitude, a separation occurred during a spontaneous twist of the sling because the airflow turned the parachute around. While Yevkurov helped make the filling chute, he reached the ground, as he jumped from a height of 200 m on a limited area. He simply did not have the fullness of the parachute, and he hurt his leg," Shamanov explained.
"I was in the hospital the day before yesterday. He was here (in Moscow) for a couple of days. Today, he went home. It's too bad that this incident occurred. He had a conversation with the president, and the president complained that he had injured his leg at an unfortunate moment. Though I want to say that the doctors reacted very promptly, and we have no doubt that in the near future Yunus-Bek will get back to normal," the commander expressed his confidence, adding that Yevkurov is one of the legendary Russian paratroopers.
