Erdem Gunduz, 34, from Istanbul who became the national symbol of antigovernment protests in Turkey in mid-August will receive the M100 Media Award, RIA Novosti reports.
Gunduz came to the Taksim Square and stopped at the Cultural Center of Ataturk, standing motionless in front of the Kemal Ataturk portrait for hours. Witnesses say he stood there for 8 hours.
Potsdam Mayor Jann Jakobs said that Gunduz inspired peaceful protests.
The M100 Media Award is given to German journalists every year. Gunduz will receive the award in Potsdam on September 5.
