The Georgian Muslim community is protesting against the demolition of a minaret in the settlement of Tsela in the Samtskhe-Dzhavakheti region.
The country's Justice Minister, Tea Tsulukiani, believes however that the issue should not be a taboo, but should be discussed openly and without any prejudice. She also does not rule out the idea of a referendum in order to establish certain rules concerning the construction of minarets.
She underlined as well that the absence of minarets does not mean that the Muslims cannot freely perform their religious practices.
