The recent heatwave may lead to rising numbers of infectious diseases, both in summer and autumn, Professor Aydyn Mamedov of Azerbaijani medical university announced, Trend reports.
The heat has had a negative effect on people's immune systems. There may be more cases of intestinal diseases and food poisoning. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reports that citizens are visiting the beaches more often, including polluted beaches on the Absheron peninsula.
Mamedov said that such beaches are hazardous and the higher temperatures allows dangerous microorganisms to spawn faster, leading to intestinal and skin diseases.
