Two functionaries of the Armenian Ministry of Ecology have been sentenced for taking bribes, News Armenia reports, citing the press-service of the Prosecutor-General of the republic.
The deputy head of the state ecological inspectorate of the Ministry of Ecology, Arsen Petrosyan, was sentenced to 10 years with confiscation of property worth the equivalent of $3,310, while the head of this inspectorate, Tigran Grigoryan, was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment with confiscation of property worth $10,360.
Petrosyan was demanding a bribe of $1000 from the head of ‘Delta Fragment’ (an exploiter of gypsiferous clay and the Irish touchstone mine ‘Astkhik’) and a bribe of $13,660 from a representative of the ‘Akhtalin mineral processing plant’, for hiding violations of ecological control measures and efficient use of resources, which were found during inspections. Petrosyan handed part of the money to his boss, Grigoryan.
