The US is commemorating the 2977 people killed in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, RIA Novosti reports.
The new complex consisting of 5 skyscrapers will be seen at a distance of 50km away from Manhattan. The police identified about 2,750 names of over 3,000 victims. The memorial was opened on the 10th commemoration.
September 11 became the Patriot Day in 2002 and the National Day of Service and Remembrance in 2009.
