Tens of thousands of American study the Russian language as an optional subject at education centers. Over 300,000 people speak Russian in the New York City, as stated at an international conference held in the city yesterday, ITAR-TASS reports.
50 teachers of the Russian language, translators, diplomats and journalists attended the talks. New York has 18 specialized schools. The Russian Center in New York City organized the conference at the Princeton Club in Manhattan. The Russky Mir Foundation, Rossotrudnichestvo, Moscow government and the Russian General Consulate in the New York City helped organize the conference.
