The lack of food supplies has already caused severe inflation in Syria. Experts believe that the country may soon face famine.
Since May, 2012 prices in Syria have risen 68 percent on average. In Aleppo the inflation rate is 82 percent, in the country's capital, Damascus, 59 percent. The main reason for the food crisis is the decrease in production. In 2011 the production of grain fell by 4.2 million tons.
According to the United Nations, some 1.4 million Syrians will soon be starving.
