Monument to Vladimir Vysotsky installed in the area of Mount Elbrus

A monument to Vladimir Vysotsky was opened in the village of Tegenekli in Kabardino-Balkaria during the festival "Peace to the Caucasus," the press service of the Elbrus area reports.

"The famous Soviet singer visited Kabardino-Balkaria many times, he composed songs about the mountains of the Baksan Valley. Here, in the Elbrus region, Vysotsky wrote his song "Only mountains can be better than mountains", the famous film "Vertical", where he played one of the characters was filmed here," Interfax-South quotes the press-release. 

The monument is unique, as it is located at a height of about two thousand meters above sea level, the press service said.

People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy was present at the unveiling ceremony. "I am very pleased that the monument has been placed here, in the mountains of Elbrus, which he so loved and glorified, where he created masterpieces of Soviet bard music," Lanovoy said.

The author of the bust is the Russian sculptor Alexander Apollonov.
