An unknown gunman opened fire at police when they tried to check his documents on Thursday in the Chechen village of Nizhniy-Kalaus, a source from the police of the republic told RIA Novosti in a telephone conversation.
The police opened return fire and the vehicle of the criminal exploded after veering off the road. The deputy head of the local police department was injured by the explosion. In the car the police found a pistol fitted with a silencer, two shells and the body of the as yet unidentified attacker.
