A Russian-Abkhaz religious forum has just finished in the Abkhaz capital of Sukhumi. The assembled experts discussed the situation surrounding the Church of Abkhazia and the way it is artificially politicized.
Sergey Mikheyev, the Director General of the Center for Political Situations, focused on the role of the Patriarch of Constantinople in the struggle for independence among the Orthodox Churches in the post-Soviet countries.
Mikhail Tyurenkov, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Kultura newspaper, noted that the whole issue was often misinterpreted and that an unbiased approach was necessary.
