Makhachkala ex-mayor charged with terrorism

Makhachkala ex-Mayor Sayid Amirov, his nephew Yusup Japarov and Khasavyurt ex-assistant prosecutor Magomed Abdulgalimov have been charged with terrorism and gun trafficking. The latter told the police that he was hiding a Strela-2 missile complex acquired for murder of the ex-mayor’s political opponent, Kommersant reports.

Amirov and Japarov are accused of murdering investigator Arsen Gajibekov in Kaspiysk in December 2011. Amirov has not admitted guilt. He was charged on June 4. According to investigations, Abdulgalimov bought the missile system in March 2012 to shoot down the plane of Sagid Murtazaliyev, an opponent of Amirov, member of the Dagestani parliament and head of an office of the Dagestani Pension Fund.

Lawyers of Amirov and Japarov appealed the terrorism and gun trafficking charges.
