Dmitry Markaryan, head of the legal department of the Pyatigorsk administration, said that the city authorities will appeal the court’s decision to preserve an illegal mosque, RIA Novosti reports.
The Pyatigorsk administration requested the court to order demolition of the mosque and restrict its use as a religious center in September 2013. The court ordered to take down only two top brick fragments of the tower over the roof and banned mass meetings in the building.
The court recognized the mosque as an illegal building in November 2012. It was constructed without all the necessary documentation and caused discomfort for the local residents. The construction was halted, and the building was closed down.
