Russia is marking the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland today to honour Heroes of the Soviet Union, Russian Federation, holders of the St. George and Glory Orders, RIA Novosti reports.
ussian President Vladimir Putin will attend a ceremony at the Georgiyevsky Hall at the Big Kremlin Palace. Over 300 people were invited.
Russia has been marking the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland since 2007 to honour holders of the St. George Order, an order established in 1769. The order was restored as the highest award for military merit, according to the presidential decree of August 8, 2000.
