Georgian Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari said that 962 convicts were on hunger strike, including 909 of them at prison N14 in Geguti (Tsqaltubo District, Imereti Region), Day.az reports.
Most of the convicts are unhappy that formation of the commission to study flaws of justice was halted and demand a reconsideration of their cases. Some demand the cancellation of punishments for being a crime boss and drug-related crimes to be removed.
The minister does not rule out that the the hunger strike was provoked by certain law enforcers.
