The Declaration of Armenian Independence was signed 20 years ago on the 23rd of August 1990 by the supreme council of the Armenian Socialist Republic. On the 21st of September 1991 a referendum was held, in which 94.99% voted to leave the USSR. Officially that is the Day of Armenian Independence.
