A monument of Joseph Stalin built in Telavi in September will be torn downon December 31, News Georgia reports.
The monument was originally unveiled by the Union of Veterans and the Stalinist International Organization. Some people were outraged by the monument. It was vandalized with red paint soon after the unveiling.
Local authorities said that the monument had been built illegally and initiated a tender to take it down. The Civil Development Foundation won the tender. $380 was granted from the local budget to demolish the monument.
