Ahmet Yarlykapov, a senior scientist of the Center for Ethnopolitical Studies of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the AS, believes that Volgograd was picked for the recent terrorist attacks for two reasons: it is a city for transit from Middle Asia and the Caucasus and the security in the city is low.
The expert supposes that terrorist would rather organize blasts in Sochi and Moscow but cannot do that due to high security measures. He warned, that special attention to security should be paid to the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories in the light of the upcoming Olympic Games.
Tarlykapov reminded about a car blast near a police station in Pyatigorsk. The expert assumes that it was an example of Doku Umarov’s realizing threats to ruin the Olympic Games, as he announced many years ago.
