An attempt to supply weapons from Turkey to Syria for the rebels under the guise of humanitarian aid has been stopped today by the Turkish police. The trailer, which contained, according to the documents, humanitarian aid to the Syrian population, was inspected at the border crossing point of Kirihan, and ammunition and weapons were revealed instead of drugs and provisions.
The trailer belongs to the Islamic Charitable Society, but the organization has hastened to refute its involvement in attempting to smuggle weapons. At the moment the incident is being investigated, and three people have been arrested, including two Turkish citizens.
Less than a month ago Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz officially stated that there was no regular flow of weapons to Syrian rebels from the Turkish territories.
