Preliminary picture of terrorist attacks in Volgograd

The first unofficial answer to the question "why has Volgograd become the target of the terrorists?" was spread today by law enforcement officers of the Volgograd region conducting the investigation into the December attacks. A source in the law enforcement agencies reported that the suicide bombers came to Volgograd to make explosions and to kill as many people as possible but not to use the city as a transit point for subsequent terrorist attacks elsewhere.

"The pattern of circumstances of the incident is pre-established. According to available information (which is indicated by a number of clues), the suicide bombers who exploded the bombs at the railway station in Volgograd and on the 15 trolleybus were not prepared in the Volgograd region; they arrived in the region, presumably already having a specific task to destabilize the situation and to commit suicide bombings with a large number of victims and survivors”, Interfax quotes the participant of the investigation of the attacks.

According to him, the investigation is still developing a hypothesis that the bombers were trained in one of the subjects of the North Caucasus Federal District, "where federal forces continue active elimination of members of the armed underground". The source did not mention any special subject of the Russian Federation in question. The terrorists infiltrated the Volgograd region, bypassing the busiest routes actively controlled by the police, through field roads. This allowed them to remain undetected until the terrorist attacks.

Also, the source added that the second attack was carried out by a man.

As a result of the two terrorist attacks in Volgograd 34 people were killed and dozens were wounded, of whom 62 are still in hospitals in Volgograd and Moscow; five of them in a critical condition .
