Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has visited flood-stricken Pakistan, Iranian Interior Minister Muhammed Mustafa Nadjar said, Trend reports, citing ISNA.
It is the greatest disaster to hit the country in its history. Approximately 2,000 people have died, thousands are injured, 5,000 villages have been totally destroyed and 14 million people left homeless.
The UN considers this disaster more destructive than the tsunami of 2004 and the recent earthquake in Haiti. The sum of the material damage has not been calculated yet. The Pakistani authorities have requested help from the world community.
Nadjar said that had Iran established a special organization to help the victims.
