Stavropol Territory could become one of the priority regions for the resettlement of compatriots from abroad in 2015, the Minister of Regional Development of Russia Igor Slyunyaev said during his visit to the region.
In December, the head of Regional Development instructed the Department of State Policy in the sphere of international relations to study the issue of the possible inclusion of Stavropol Territory in the list of the areas of priority settlement in the state program of resettlement of compatriots living abroad. Currently, priority is given to the regions of the Far East.
"The program to promote the resettlement of compatriots in Stavropol Territory will be coordinated and adopted by the Ministry of the Regional Development in the first decade of this year. It will be the 53rd approved regional program in Russia. The issue of including Stavropol in the list of priority areas for the resettlement of Semirechye Cossacks is being discussed now, and I think that will be resolved in 2015," Slyunyaev is quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the governor of Stavropol, Vladimir Vladimirov, applications for resettlement have now been received from 112 families of Semirechye Cossacks living in Kyrgyzstan. In case of successful implementation of the program, around 6000 Cossacks are ready to take up residence in Stavropol Territory.
Currently, incoming Semirechye Cossacks are allocated plots of land in the village of Sengileevsky in the Shpakovsky district. In future the geography of settlement will be expanded to include the districts Budennovsky, Kursky, Levokumsky, Neftekumsky and Stepnovsky.
