Demonstrators demanding Dzhohar Dudayev Street be renamed arrested in Riga

The Riga police arrested 9 participants in a demonstration to rename Dzhokhar Dudayev Street, named after the leader of the Chechen separatists. The former Street of the Cosmonauts was renamed in 1996, since when the opposition has tried about 40 times to have the old name returned.
After the local elections that took place in Latvia on the 6th of June, the "Center of Agreement" party came to power in the Riga duma. It is the first time that a Russian has become a Mayor of Riga.
