St. Petersburg marks 70th anniversary of blockade lift

St. Petersburg is marking the 70th anniversary of the blockade lift. Over 132,000 people awarded with Medals for Defense of Leningrad and Resident of Blockaded Leningrad are marking the anniversary, RIA Novosti reports.

Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko and Speaker of the City Legislative Council Vyacheslav Makarov congratulated the city. Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in marking the event. He will lay flowers at the Piskarevskaya Graveyard and the Nevsky Pyatachok Memorial. Putin will observe the Proryv first 3D panorama of the Great Patriotic War in Russia.

Putin will attend the Requiem ballet of the Saint-Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theater of B. Eigman, Alexandrinsky Theater, State Chamber Orchestra Virtuozy Moskvy and the Academic Big Choir Mastera Khorovogo Penya.
