Russian Ministry for Environment to inspect River Samur

The Russian Ministry for Environment will check legality of water-intake structures on River Samur in Derbent and Izberbash, said Gajimet Safaraliyev, Head of the Russian Parliamentary Committee for Nationalities.

The Yedinstvo Public Organization of Dagestan sent an expert report to the Public Chamber on January 27, noting that pumping ground water could reduce the water level, cause mineralization and damage soil. Moreover, the process could cause landslides.

13 villages with a total population of over 30,000 could suffer from the environmental problem.
