The president of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has urged imams to reconcile all blood feuds between families-teips (clans) before the end of the month of Ramadan. He declared his readiness to become a mediator himself, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the President, there are some 50 families now in state of blood feud between each other. Mr Kadyrov said that the religious institution of settling blood feuds is not efficient enough and proposed creating a special initiative group of imams and other religious and public figures. He also pointed out that this will not absolve people who had commited criminal acts of responsibility.
