Istanbul and Ankara can face drinking water shortage

The Turkish cities of Istanbul and Ankara can face an acute shortage of drinking water, the Turkish Milliyet newspaper reported on February 17, reports Trend.

Currently Istanbul's water reservoirs stand at 30.87 percent and Ankara's reservoirs, 36 percent.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said that everyday each Turkish citizen uses 217 litres of water for his own needs.

Some 47 percent of water consumed by the Turkish population, accounts for water from reservoirs.
