A petition started by S. V. from Anchorage, possibly Sergey Voropayev, has started a petition for secession of Alaska and mergence with Russia. The petition can be found on the White House website.
The document reminds that Russians crossed the Bering Strait and settled on the Aleutian Islands. The first European visitors of Alaska were Mikhail Gvozdev, a land-surveyor, and Ivan Fedorov, a navigating officer, who sailed on the Svyato Gavriil ship as part of an expedition of Afanasy Shestakov and Dmitry Pavlutsky in 1729-1735.
13,543 people have signed the petition. 86,457 more need to sign it by April 20 in order to get a reaction from the White House.
