The baby death rate in Chechnya dropped by 25% last year. The birth rate in the republic exceeds death rate five-fold, ITAR-TASS reports.
Taisia Irbaiyeva, chief pediatrician of the Chechen Healthcare Ministry, said that progress in reducing baby death rate had been achieved via a republican program. 206 babies were saved.
The number of babies born exceeded the death rate 4.9-fold, as of March 1, 2014. The population of Chechnya totaled 1.34 million on January 1 and increased by 21,800 (1.6%), compared with the same period the previous year.
The death rate dropped by 11% in Chechnya in January-February 2014, compared with the same period in 2013. 1,131 people died in January-February 2014, 1,270 in January-February 2013.
