The mayor of Moscow, Yury Luzhkov, congratulated his fellow-Muscovites on City Day, and conveyed his best wishes through the media. This day is a favourite celebration of Moscow's citizens.
A lot of activities are planned for today, although the festivities are being held in a more modest way this year, due to the grave situation with wildfires. The Moscow authorities have inaugurated several healthcare, transport and sports facilities, as well as restoring the palace of Russian tsar Alexei Mikhailovich at Kolomenskoye.
The mayor is taking part in the opening ceremony of this historic building. He called it a unique masterpiece that had earned the title of a wonder of the world.
